Alien Arena 2008 7.20



Alien Arena 2008 is a freeware online deathmatch game with fast and furious action for Windows and Linux!

The game runs on the CRX engine, and features modern effects such as real-time lighting and shadows, shaders, light bloom, reflective surfaces and much more, while still being able to run on even modest systems.

The game includes a built in, as well as external server browser and chat client. Players can look up their stats online, chat with other players, and become part of a growing community.

The Alien Arena experience is now a finely tuned, highly polished body of work.

* Added Invisibility powerup
* Added reward system.
* Reduced power of vaporizer, and increased spawn time of vaporizer to twice of other weapons.
* Added weapon inventory display in HUD.
* Shockwave weapon effects. Increased efficiency of several weapon effects.
* New CTF flag effects.
* Added rotating particle effects.
* Fixed buffer overrun with ps.stats
* Bots now use alt-fire in vehicles.
* Haste and sproing greatly improved.
* New death effects.
* Bot node files only load at start of level, rather than previously when a player joins.
* Noshadows option for static map meshes.
* Fixed "disappearing ctf flag" bug!
* Added tangent light space vector normalization to per-pixel mesh rendering.
* Added level of detail system for player models.
* Bounding boxes calc'ed at load time, performance increase.
* Occulusion culling of entites, huge performance increase.
* Added GLSL program management.
* Added parallax mapping.
* Added glsl normal/specular mapping for dynamic lighting.
* Added glsl specular lighting.
* Removed old fixed functions for dynamic and specular lighting on normalmaps. (some where broken anyway).
* Changed some skin colors of players and weapons to be more visible(and eye pleasing).
* Added new water shaders, so that mappers can fake reflections.
* Added distortion shader to basic water(disabled due to some bugginess).
* Vertex lerping no longer batched in separate loop, now done inside of texture mapping loop, nice peformance increase.
* Anti-lag added, backwards reconciliation portion. More to follow.
* Fixed a few video menu bugs.
* New weapon icons.
* Cvar's added to specify log and motd files.
* Heartbeat's now only re-resolve master if it cannot reach it.
* Faster image filtering.
* Rscript optimizations using hash keys.
* Removed flashlight code.
* Added support for Linux/X11 clipboard.
* Linux directory support.
* Linux windowed mouse fixes.
* Netname string made larger.
* Fixed escape character removal in death messages.
* Names no longer cut off in team scoreboard.
* New glass effects, now uses a semi-true reflection.
* Option to place player id's over players, as well as identify flags.
* Rcon password changes - can now have spaces, and protection against overflows.
* Fixed bug with random() that caused some dedicated servers to segfault in linux.
* Rscript optimization - removed redundant loading in meshes.
* New bloodstain effects using decals. Removed old stain code. Looks cooler, and performs better.
* Added 3 new maps: Dm-liberation, Ctf-cryogenic, Tca-cryogenic.
* Better bullethole effects.
* Fixed fov bug.
